Karen Park was Invited Speaker on Audobon Day at the Hillman Library!

Using her research and collaborative projects with colleagues at Oxford University, Karen Park spoke on the topic of "Words for Birds" on Friday, December 6, 2020. She spoke on the intersections of language and culture as they specifically relate to birds and their migratory and living patterns, and addressing questions such as: "Are roosters cocky? And did ravens give us ravenous? Cuckoos might just be the original cuckolds. But why is the Great Horned owl braneded with the Mayan moniker 'Stink of the Devil'?"
