Faculty present on ESL topics at conferences

While students are on Spring Break this week, ELI Director Dr. Alan Juffs and ELI Associate Director Dr. Dawn E. McCormick have been hard at work presenting their research at the TESOL 2019 International Convention & English Language Expo and #AAAL2019.

At the 2019 TESOL Convention, Dr. McCormick presented "IEP Learners’ Self-Correction Profiles During an Oral Production Task" with Dr. Mary Lou Vercellotti of Ball State University. Dr. McCormick and Dr. Vercellotti (who received her PhD from Piitt) are shown in the photo. Because their presentation was at 7 am, Drs. McCormick and Vercellotti wore Coca Cola shirts to help lighten up the room!

At the 2019 AAAL Conference, Dr. Juffs presented two papers: "Combining Formal and Usage-Based Theories with Data Science Techniques in Measuring the Development of Syntactic Complexity in Written Production" and a paper related to the discussion of multiple theoretical perspectives on learning in a single L2 classroom.

The ELI is proud to have the opportunity to share this research with the linguistics and teaching-English-as-a-second-language communities!
