Higher Education Application Process
An applicant from within a graduate program in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences or another graduate school within the University of Pittsburgh must submit:
- Completed certificate program application. Applications are available in the Department of Linguistics.
- Copies of transcript(s) of current and prior academic work including bachelor’s degree
- Statement of purpose
- Curriculum Vitae
- Non-native speakers of English should provide an official TOEFL Score (minimum 100) or IELTS score (minimum 7) with their application.
An applicant (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Immigrant, Refugee) with a BA or equivalent who is not in a graduate program within the University of Pittsburgh must submit:
- Completed certificate program application. Applications are available at Sennott Square or the Department of Linguistics.
- Application fee of $50.
- Official transcript(s) of prior academic work including bachelor’s degree. Undergraduate QPA must be 3.0 or higher.
- TOEFL or equivalent test score if required
- Statement of purpose
- Curriculum Vitae

ESL Program Specialist Application Process
An applicant from within a graduate program in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences or another graduate school within the University of Pittsburgh must submit:

- Copy of Instructional I Certificate
- Statement of purpose
- Curriculum Vitae
An applicant (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Immigrant, Refugee) with a BA or equivalent who is not in a graduate program within the University of Pittsburgh must submit:
- Completed certificate program application. Applications are available at Sennot Square or the Department of Linguistics.
- Application fee of $50.
