Higher Education Application Process

An applicant from within a graduate program in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences or another graduate school within the University of Pittsburgh must submit: 

  1. Completed certificate program application. Applications are available in the Department of Linguistics.
  2. Copies of transcript(s) of current and prior academic work including bachelor’s degree
  3. Statement of purpose
  4. Curriculum Vitae
  5. Non-native speakers of English should provide an official TOEFL Score (minimum 100) or IELTS score (minimum 7) with their application.

An applicant (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Immigrant, Refugee) with a BA or equivalent who is not in a graduate program within the University of Pittsburgh must submit: 

  1. Completed certificate program application. Applications are available at Sennott Square or the Department of Linguistics. 
  2. Application fee of $50. 
  3. Official transcript(s) of prior academic work including bachelor’s degree. Undergraduate QPA must be 3.0 or higher. 
  4. TOEFL or equivalent test score if required 
  5. Statement of purpose 
  6. Curriculum Vitae

ESL Program Specialist Application Process

An applicant from within a graduate program in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences or another graduate school within the University of Pittsburgh must submit:

  1. Completed certificate program application. Applications are available in the Department of Linguistics.
  2. Copies of transcript(s) of current and prior academic work including bachelor’s degree
  3. Copy of Instructional I Certificate
  4. Statement of purpose
  5. Curriculum Vitae

An applicant (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Immigrant, Refugee) with a BA or equivalent who is not in a graduate program within the University of Pittsburgh must submit:

  1. Completed certificate program application. Applications are available at Sennot Square or the Department of Linguistics.
  2. Application fee of $50.
  3. Official transcript(s) of prior academic work including bachelor’s degree. Undergraduate QPA must be 3.0 or higher. 
  4. Copy of Instructional I Certificate
  5. TOEFL or equivalent test score if required
  6. Statement of purpose
  7. Curriculum Vitae
